A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 23-year- old mechanic, Ahmed Ochegbe, in prison custody for alleged conspiracy and armed robbery. The Magistrate, Mrs Franca Yuwa, ordered the remand of the accused as requested by the Prosecutor, Insp Imo Edward, who argued that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the case and that investigation in the case was still ongoing. Edward told the court that the accused of Agber village in Makurdi, Benue, committed the alleged offence on Aug.15. He alleged that the complainants, Ubagu Jaochim and Josan Adikwu, reported the case of robbery at ‘B’ Division police station in Makurdi. He said the complainants reported that the accused, with another now at large, allegedly attacked them while armed with locally made pistol along Government College road, Makurdi The prosecutor alleged that the accused, at gun-point, collected the sum of N1,500 from his victims.. Men of the Lagos State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Yaba Lagos have commenced investigation into the death of a middle-aged man, Anuoluwapo Saheed, who was allegedly hacked to death at a hotel in Abule Egba area of the State. It was revealed that Saheed was stabbed to death by some hoodlums led by a one Emmanuel, on July 30, in front of Buffalo Hotel, located along Akerele Street in the Abule Egba area of the state. The hoodlums were said to have trailed the deceased to the hotel where he was lured outside by a commercial sex worker attached to the hotel before he was stabbed to death. It was further learnt that the deceased was hacked while negotiating and romancing the unidentified prostitute at the entrance of the hotel. The Police in Delta have arrested a male undergraduate of Delta State University, Abraka for allegedly giving a female student cake laced with Indian hemp. Police spokesperson, DSP Celestina Kalu said in a statement issued to newsmen on Friday in Asaba, that after eating the cake, the victim started behaving abnormally and was admitted in a hospital for treatment. She said that a male student from the University reported to the police in Abraka on Sept. 2 that Bassey Aniekan, a student of the university gave the cake to the female student, aged 17. She said that during interrogation, Bassey confessed that he added Indian hemp to the ingredients used in baking the cake. “ The suspect admitted to have used Indian hemp to bake the cake which he gave the victim; we are still investigating the matter,” Kalu said.
